The Wandering Drapes

By Charlotte & Sumayah

The Patchwork Princess is a two-piece set created from a green corduroy curtain and patch-worked tartan panels made using a variety of off-cut fabrics and old clothing. The design gives new life to materials that would have otherwise been forgotten in closets or discarded as waste. By reimagining these textiles, the garment explores the beauty of reuse and the possibilities within sustainable fashion.

The silhouette combines vintage-inspired elements with modern styling, featuring a cropped top and a low-rise skirt. It draws on fantasy and grandeur, evoking the charm of a whimsical princess while incorporating contemporary influences and punk aesthetics. Technical skills in pattern making and draping are showcased throughout the construction of the piece.

This project began with a dated curtain that once served a single domestic purpose. By transforming it into a wearable garment, we extended its lifespan and value. Every part of the curtain was used, reflecting our intention to design with minimal waste. The result is a modular outfit that can be styled in different ways, allowing the top and bottom to function as standalone pieces that transition easily between daywear and evening wear.

As designers, we believe sustainability is not only about materials, but also about thoughtful construction, versatility, and longevity. This piece embraces the slow, traditional aspects of making and celebrates the role of craftsmanship in fashion. It reflects our shared passion for creative reuse, intentional design, and garments that tell stories of transformation and care.
