Nîmes

By Chan Hung Hin

This coffee table reimagines the strength and durability of denim by repurposing reclaimed jeans into the table’s foundation, symbolising the fabric’s history of hard work and resilience. Denim, with its long association with industrial labour and hard work, serves as the foundation of an artistic piece. The stainless steel top complements the denim’s industrial roots, creating a striking contrast between the raw, tactile texture of the fabric and the sleek metal. This project demonstrates how discarded materials can be transformed into meaningful, lasting objects, celebrating sustainability and the stories embedded in the materials themselves.

The project celebrates the transformative potential of reclaimed materials, focusing on denim’s historical significance. Denim is often seen as a symbol of resilience and hard work. By using discarded jeans to form the table legs, the project breathes new life into this humble material. The stainless steel top represents the industrial history of denim while contrasting with the denim’s rugged, worn-in texture. This piece not only functions as furniture but serves as a statement of sustainability, showcasing how waste can be reimagined into something both beautiful and purposeful.
